Dynamic stop pooling for flexible and sustainable ride sharing

Ride sharing - the bundling of simultaneous trips several people in one vehicle may help to reduce carbon footprint human mobility. However, standard door-to-door ride services trade reduced route length for increased user travel times and come with burden many stops detours pick up individual users. Requiring some users walk nearby shared reduces detours, but could become inefficient if spatio-temporal demand patterns do not well fit stop locations. Here, we present a simple computational model dynamic pooling flexible positions, analyze its influence on performance services. We find that does a-priori save length, occupancy. Intriguingly, it also time although parts their trip. Together, break trade-off between lengths sharing, thus enabling higher sustainability service quality.
